British Colonialism influenced the architecture.  Renovation contrasts traditional godowns (warehouses) with the skyscrapers of a modern city.

Singapore preserves the cultural heritage of the many ethnic groups who live there.  Little India, the Arab District and Chinatown are distinctive areas of the island city.
